Acoustics SIG

The Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts

The Acoustics Special Interest Group has been formed to provide a forum for technical discussions concerning measurement uncertainties, basic log QC and interpretation, advanced applications, data acquisition, tool designs, industry standards, and case studies.  The Acoustics SIG home page is here.

Borehole Acoustics has grown significantly in technology and applications in both wireline and LWD systems since the 1960s. Uses of the data have grown from porosity and cement bond logging to include pore pressure prediction, formation evaluation, seismic correlation, horizontal stress estimation, fracture detection and characterization, production enhancement, geosteering, and more.

Everyone with an interest in Borehole Acoustics is welcome to join us, including folks from operators, service companies, academia, and consultants.  There is no fee to join the SIG; however, there is sometimes a registration fee to attend meetings to offset the cost of meeting facilities/meals.  We endeavor to meet once every two months, as well as have periodic workshops.

This form is intended for non-SPWLA members to use.  If you are an SPWLA member, please join the SIG through the membership renewal process instead.  Contact stephanie@spwla.org for help with this.
