terms:mole

The quantity of a substance whose unit weight is numerically equal to the molecular weight of the substance. For example, one mole of water (H2O) is 18 weight units (pounds, grams, tons, etc.) because the molecular weight of water is 18 (two atoms of hydrogen. each of which is 1 unit; one atom of oxygen, the weight of which is l6 units).
