CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Sunday, October 8th, 2023  Midnight (Central Time; GMT-6:00)

The SPWLA Board of Directors invites you to join us in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 18-22, 2024 to showcase your case studies, new technologies and innovations at the SPWLA 65th Annual Logging Symposium.

As in the 2022 and 2023 Symposiums we will conduct dual technical sessions and poster sessions to showcase the maximum number of your papers.

With the symposium moved to May, the schedule is compressed for next year resulting in a shorter window for abstract submission.  We just finalized the Special Organized Session Topics and some software modifications to make your abstract entry easier. We thank everyone for their quick response on Special Sessions.

The future is bright for petrophysics.  Our industry has continued to evolve: expanding from conventional to unconventional resources, to expanded mature field diagnostics and analysis, leveraging increased computer power and easier software to expand data analytics, full integration of data from core to reservoir and now leveraging that data for the energy transition.  Special and General sessions will cover these aspects plus technology focused sessions such as Ultra-Deep Azimuthal Resistivity, or advances in Mud Logging, NMR, or Image applications.

GENERAL SESSIONS:
– Integrated Open Hole Formation Evaluation
– Cased Hole Formation Evaluation/ Well Integrity Diagnostics and Remediation
– Geosteering / UDAR Well Placement For Optimal Completion
– Formation Testing – Reservoir Dynamics and Fluid Characterization
– Imaging Technology and Applications – Beyond Dips
– NMR Technology and Applications – Pores and Fluids Distribution
– Acoustics Technology and Applications – Beyond Travel Time, Geomechanics and Imaging
– Nuclear Technology and Applications – Mineralogy, Fluids and True Porosity
– Surface Data Logging – Rock and Fluid Analysis
– Core and PVT – Log Validation and Reservoir Understanding
– Energy Transition – What we have, What we need for Evaluation and Monitoring
– Data Analytics – Gains and Limitations
– New Technologies / Applications

SPECIAL SESSIONS:
– New Landscape of Mud Logging Implementations – Geoscience Meets Engineering
– Cased Hole Petrophysics and Reservoir Surveillance
– Latest innovations in Ultra-Deep Azimuthal Resistivity for 3D applications
– Expanding Applications of Downhole Fluid Analysis
– Best Practices in Data Acquisition Optimization
– From Borehole to Reservoir – Borehole Imaging applications in O&G, CCUS and Geothermal
– Digital Rock Physics for formation evaluation: are we there yet?
– Multi-physics/Multi-disciplinary Core to Reservoir Models: Geologic Facies Linked to Petrophysical Rock Types, Heterogeneity Quanification and Large Pore petrophysical modeling
– Geochemical Logging – Mineralogy (and Clay impacts) for improved Petrophysical Models and Reservoir Characterization
– Automation in Well-Centric Geologic Evaluation
– Preparation for the energy transition – Reducing subsurface risk in modeling and monitoring?

The information contained in your abstract is the basis for the acceptance of your paper into the technical program. Your abstract should contain 300-600 words and must contain a figure. Do not feel obligated to use the full allocated length. Our members look for papers containing strong technical and innovative content. We ask you to refrain from commercialism and focus on the promotion of petrophysics and formation evaluation. Your submitted abstract needs to be the same as the abstract published in your paper. Before submitting you must agree to meet all deadlines defined on the abstract submission page.  All abstracts and final manuscripts must be in English. Submission details are included in the online “Instructions to Authors”.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Abstracts must be submitted no later than Sunday 1st October 2023,

NEW Date – Sunday, October 8th, 2023  Midnight (Central Time; GMT-6:00) via online submission at https://www.spwlaworld.org/abstract-submission/

Notification of acceptance of either oral or poster papers will be made in November 2023. If selected, your abstract will be published online on the Symposium’s website in January 2024. You will then be required to submit a draft manuscript for the Symposium transactions by Monday 11th March 2024 and your final manuscript by Monday 15th April 2024. Any paper not submitted in finalized format by the deadline shall be removed. After submitting, you shall work with at least two members of the Technical Committee for a review of the manuscript to ensure clarity and to avoid commercialism. For questions, please contact Stephanie Turner at SPWLA either by phone (+1) 713-947-8727 or email stephanie@spwla.org.

We look forward to reviewing your abstracts!
